Our Project in Dr Congo
Our website’s emission are offset by a run-of-river power plant in DR Congo.
The waters of Virunga National Park are a source of life and energy alike. Rivers and streams feed unique plant species and animals, such as the world’s last free roaming mountain gorillas.
The powerful current of the Rutshuru river powers the small but efficient run-of-river plant Matebe, whose sustainable energy is delivered to 30.000 inhabitants. For most of which it’s the first time being connected to a power grid, providing an alternative to illegally trading or buying charcoal from the protected forests of the park. By responsibly developing the economy, our project helps to stabilise and install peace in the region.
